March Winds of Change

Where do they lead?

What is it about March? It either casts a shadow, catches us off guard with billowy gusts of wind or blast us with sunshiny days that promise spring time. If consistency is what you want, you’ll not find it in March. If stability is what you want, sorry it usually doesn’t offer that either.
March is usually a time of change. We remember the old saying,”In like a lion, out like a lamb,”or we can reverse that with,” in like a lamb out like a lion.” I’ve seen them both play out.
But to me, the month of March is just a short story of life itself, where change is inevitable from beginning to end.
Life is birth, as you first look up at faces, designed to care for your infant needs.
Life is exploration as you are introduced to the world around,
Life is discovery as you make friendships and find avenues that call to find a place in the world little by little.
Life is adventure as you seek ways to live in a world that is gratifying to you and those around you.
Life is satisfaction when you find fulfillment in the activities and the associates you choose or those that choose you..
Life has the dark clouds of discouragement when your intended plans just don’t work out.
Life is awkward, when you find yourself trying to fit into new situations.
Life is beautiful when you find the love of your life, whether a mate, or fulfilling life work,
Life is tragic when you lose a job, a loved one, or a solid reputation.

Yes, life can be all of these things and more, for life is a constant migration of experiences that when all tolled, becomes a story, yours and mine.
Your story is not the same as mine. We have our own unique story. We have our own learning opportunities. What we do with them is our choice. I like to remember a song that was popular a few years ago. The lyrics proclaimed “to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative,
latch on to the affirmative and don’t mess with Mr. In between.”* That may be a lighthearted way to look at life, but it can go a long way in handling the changes life thrusts upon us. Always remember that changeable times, like, the changeable winds of March can be followed by spring. Our attitude can make all the difference. Dare I share the following poem as an affimative?

*Johnny Mercer 1944

Life

I measured the sky as it blossomed above
In soft golden starlight for the mood of young love.

I fathomed the sea, heard its rush and its might
Saw the wonder and magic as sun glinted its light.

I breathed in a fragrance so sweet and so clean
Apple blossoms and lilacs near a meadow of green,

I caught at the wind and felt of its flight
As it rustled the grass, flickering dark green to light.

I reached for a child, so tender and meek,
Felt the milk of his hair and the blush of his cheek.

My breath caught at wonder, my heart ceased from strife.
My lips breathed thanksgiving to the Giver of Life.
