Soon after we came from Maui in late summer to our farm in the Midwest, my husband Don took me out to our pool area and pointed to a little petunia that had manage to grow in a crevice in the cement. This seemed to be a rather amusing message for me to contemplate. As time went on, the little flower kept putting out other blossoms, all from that tiny crevice. I stood watching as this continued day after day. Showers fell from heaven to nourish it and sunshine was there to sustain as well. I didn’t try to help with my usual doses of fertilizer that I give to other plants at the edge of our patio, but just watched in amazement as it continued to flourish.
A verse of scripture comes to mind as I think about my indomitable little flower that actually became a cluster of blooms.
Be ye steadfast, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that labor is not in vain in the Lord.( I Corinthians 15:58)
Sometimes we are put in places where it is very hard to bloom; where conditions do not always lend themselves to positive outcomes. You’ve had them and so have I. So what do we do when hard times come our way?
Well let’s look again at the little flower to give us the answer. It was stretching toward the heavens and it was thriving, although hard cement surrounded. it just
kept on putting out blooms.
Is that what we do, or do we constantly look at our situation, analyzing our trouble and allowing it to defeat our patterns of thought. Do we complain to our closest friends of our dilemma, asking them to help us solve our problem? The bible instructs us to do exactly what the flower was doing; stretch towards the heavens.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt. 6:33)
Does that mean the problem will be solved immediately and conditions will soon change? It could be, but it may be a long sustaining procedure to teach us dependence on God for strength
and wisdom to walk the road he has called us to.
God is interested in our dependence on Him for all of life’s situations.
He has promised us that we will thrive when we reach out to Him in every situation of our life.
Be not dismayed what e’er be tide.
God will take care of you.
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.
God will take care of you
Through every day
O’er all the way
He will take care of you.
God will take care of you.
